Kea lauds technology
in global census outreach
Auckland, 29 March 2006
New Zealand’s global talent networking organisation Kea
says technology has played a leading role in a global census to
track down Kiwis living abroad, launched earlier this month.
Kea chief executive Ross McConnell says the first
global census of expatriate New Zealanders, called Every
One Counts, has so far attracted more than
15,000 survey participants spread across 150 countries, since
the website was launched three weeks ago.
He says web-based delivery was the only sensible approach. “If
you can’t find them, they’ve got to be able to find
you.” A viral campaign, developed by Brave New World, and
news media coverage, spearheaded awareness and was largely responsible
for 9,000 responses in the week following go-live. The campaign
axis – the website http://www.everyonecounts.co.nz and
a fully integrated backend, developed by marketing technology company
Touchpoint – captures survey responses and uses a referral
mechanism to encourage site visitors and survey participants to
refer friends and family.
"New Zealand is bigger than it looks," McConnell says. "The
official Census focuses on the four million Kiwis at home - but
what about the rest? The equivalent of almost another Auckland,
or five Otagos, may live offshore," he says. "Kiwis living
outside New Zealand are some of our most talented people, and they
have enormous potential to contribute to the country's future development."
The survey asks questions that are similar to the New Zealand
Census, plus additional questions focused on the perspectives of
New Zealanders living overseas. The website regularly updates the
number of Kiwis who have put themselves on the global map. The
survey is open until 30 April 2006.
Respondents and people who refer friends and family are eligible
to win
a range of prizes, including All Black test tickets and VIP
viewing tickets with Team New Zealand at this year's pre-America's
Cup regattas in Spain.
Every One
Counts is supported by a range of other partners
and sponsors from the public and private sectors: HSBC, Team
New Zealand, New Zealand Rugby Union, the Ministry of Economic
Development, APN News & Media
and Telecom.
