Bankdirect Sets New Precedent for Customer
Interaction
04 Dec 2003
Touchpoint has recently worked with BIG Communications to enable
BankDirect to allow the public to interact via txt message on mobile
phones, the first service of its kind for a bank in New Zealand.
People wanting to know what BankDirect’s home loan interest
rates are can simply txt the word “Rate” on their mobile
phone to the short code 3003, and immediately receive BankDirect’s
current interest rates in a reply txt.
Additionally, those wanting to join BankDirect, but don’t
want to call immediately, can txt the word “Call” to
3003, and BankDirect will call them the following day to discuss
their needs.
Kevin Leith, Head of BankDirect, says as a Direct Bank, smart technology
forms the basis of what their customers demand from bank service.
“We know that when many New Zealanders are watching their
favourite TV programme, the last thing they want to do is call a
bank. So we’ve introduced this option that allows them to
txt us then, so they receive a call back from BankDirect the following
day.
It’s a smart way of responding to today’s busy lifestyles.
From an interaction viewpoint, we believe this service is as revolutionary
as the 0800 and 0900 numbers, and is likely to become as commonplace.”
Mobile text offers a highly effective direct response channel to
facilitate immediate interaction with customers, build relationships
and ultimately drive sales. BankDirect used Touchpoint’s Above-the-Line
Txt Response marketing tool.
